So first things first, research is needed. I’m going to use my notes from the class, then I’m going to look online for any articles/books/videos that would help me better understand, while using Harvard referencing, then after that I’m going to use a Pinterest mood board to get some ideas/inspiration
Notes from class
A point is a circle you can use it to create anything and is typically used in everything, including posters, mosaic, logos etc. the app figma uses points for its logo, you could also see points on speech bubbles with the ellipsis, Ven Diagrams also use points to share the data.
A line is, well a line that can be used to simplify logos or create something very extra. An example of this is the 2011 rebrand of the HP logo which gave a lowkey and futuristic aspect to the logo. They can give appeal to multiple aesthetics like retro, vapour-wave, digital.
Tone is the opacity of a shape can be lowered to give a different tone, it shows a shape losing its colour and structure. It can be used to give depth in a picture
Point, Line, Plane Examples in Graphic Design
The Bauhaus movement started in the 1920s and it created some really cool designs that broke constraints and pushed for innovation. The focus on minimalism, harmony and elegance gives some nice aesthetically pleasing design style. (2.)
A plane is essentially just a shape with points So a square/triangle, I didn’t really hear what was being said so I looked it up and found this definition “ a flat surface extending in height and width” (1. )
This is a painting created by Piet Mondrian
Bauhaus can be seen anywhere, an example of this would be the Paul Rand IBM Logo which has gone through a lot of design changes, but the most popular one uses lines in its typography which represents the innovation from the company that is expressed by the Bauhaus, as well as the technological part shown by the colour blue. But back to the main point, we can see lines and planes being used to create art.
While trying to think of examples of Points being used in design, I recently remembered I was at the opticians and I was made to do a colourblind test, then I remembered that points are used for these colourblind tests, they typically are used as tests for people to read and they have to say to the optician what number they see, here is an example of points being used in design for practical/health purposes
