This week in class we focused more on producing work, Display and Catalog(ue) ((Why they removed the ue is beyond me)) But in class on Wednesday we had to look at catalogues in class and research them, before we made a first draft layout. The first one I picked was Patagonia.

For patagonia, I really like the way it laid out it’s content page, Displaying it on the right rather than the left, it reminds me of my CV actually. But that works because it is a bold, distinct way of laying out a repetitive layout. I love a good coffee table book/magazine, so I really enjoy the image, paragraph layout. So I will definitely use it in my catalogues layout. I also enjoyed their use of colour throughout the whole thing I think the sudden light pea green was a nice change.

Pavlides does this thing where they put an image in a filter and large display in front of that, I think that would be a cool way of separating categories. Also their use of iconography for item details, how long it lasts, how it is packaged, it’s very cool.
I also love the use of double spread images, I think they’re nice.

It was nice to see a past students work so I could get a better understanding of the standards of the catalogue. I like the use of three on the first slide there, I was very worried about like using 2 per page, as I felt it was cheating. But this A student did it. So who cares right? Anyways Imma steal this.
Also the double spread image to show 4 items was done very well. It looks like there is no crease in the middle at all. Which was very well done. I think I may want to do this as well.

I liked Bella + Canvas for it’s details below the body, I’m a little worried as to how I’m going to display the details of a product, But I’m sure I’ll figure it out, I could steal previous layouts e.g. nutritional value.

I think having the product crop in the catalogue is definitely a nice design choice. As the whole thing is massive. So crop it! I could do this for something huge like jellybeans or something.
