This was my first ever class in America and I have few thoughts about it, Firstly the way they organize their files is weird. It is like inserting code into CSS. my file is actually called jared.r221_wearable. Like jut say Jared Russell Wearable Project. Everything seems to be more stricter as well, back in Ireland we can go on our phones in class and our laptops, I got warned not to use my laptop in class which I felt was weird. Felt almost like secondary school to be honest.
There was no module content or anything taught, it was work immediately, I have to come up with an idea of something I can wear that can be 3D printed, and firstly I have never even seen a 3D printer, I’ve used blender but I’m not an expert, I just made a doughnut and some random things, I could not create something that detailed, yet. Yet is the key word here, I need to learn and focus here.
I was given an assignment to sketch this Idea and to watch some videos but I can do that later. I started by doing a mind map of ideas to do:
I like the idea of a wearable cup holder or attachable card holster. Cup holder while silly would be free your hands meaning it would be more practical than silly. But on the other hand something you could lip to your trousers and then put in a card is such a good idea and would prevent you losing your campus card. I love these ideas so I sketched both of them out:
I think the better idea is the card holster, I wouldn’t put a credit card in it or anything, As it could probably get lost or stolen easily. But for simple campus card uses I think it would be handy. As for the cup holder I still think it is a cool funny idea, I just don't think it could work, and It would need some views and opinions for it to be something. I looked up my idea for the card holster and I couldn’t see one, but then again you have a wallet “shrug”]
You know on 2nd thought I’m overthinking it, I feel like my design while practical and pointless isn’t fun. And you know what I didn’t ship myself 4,460 miles to make something boring, So I looked at my hand and thought about what was missing, and of course a hat. It is so ridiculous but hey, the brief didn’t need the item to be practical, just wearable, and a tiny hat on your finger is wearable and funny. below is some sketches of the idea and then the final idea itself
Why it works for the project: It is under 6 inches, it is wearable and it is not a ring so It should be good, I do have backups so I should be alright
So another thing I had to do was go onto Linkedin learning and watch a 5 hour course on InDesign, But before I do notes on that I just thought I would let my notes experience the journey I had to take to get my library card. Instead of you know going on my campus library and getting a card, I had to go walk 2 miles to the mesa county library to get free Linkedin learning. You may be thinking that 2 miles is nothing, and yeah you’d be right, but America is seriously un-walkable compared to home. So it felt like 10 miles and it was hard to breathe with the 4000ft elevation in Grand Junction. But I digress, below are my notes on certain topics on InDesign I needed help with
To format text you must first open paragraph styles on the right hand side of indesign, When you click it it’ll feature different paragraph styles (if you have made them) To create one, you’ll have to mess around and add a font edit the width etc with the text, and then you have highlight the entire text, then press the plus icon after clicking paragraph styles and then name the paragraph style:

InDesign offers some features to make tables, Here are some essentials. What to know is that they’re always anchored inside a text frame. Which means if you want to create a table you must make a text frame, after that press table and then add table and then you will presented with this pop up
