The Xbox Kinect is a discontinued motion-sensing camera peripheral for Xbox 360 and Xbox One that enables controller-free gaming, voice commands, and facial recognition. It uses depth sensors and RGB cameras to track full-body movement
When announced in 2009 the Kinect sensor for Xbox 360 seemed like a worthy rival to Sony's move controller or the Wii, but unlike it's competitors Kinect wasn't just a game controller that would sense your wrist movements. It was a full blown camera using infrared sensors that was capable of capturing the movements of your entire body which would enable a lot of cool ways to play games. Fast-forward 14 years, and the Kinect is only remembered as a colossal failure despite its extremely successful start. But what went wrong?
The Xbox One Kinect was doomed to fail even before it's launch, when Microsoft announced it they doubled on the efforts to popularise the Kinect by bundling it with the Xbox One, But it caused not only upset due to the price increase of $200 but also allowed for Sony to sell more PlayStation's as it was $100 cheaper and more powerful than the Xbox one making it better value for customers
By March 2014 Microsoft decided to stop the Kinect and began selling the console for $400. The unbundled Kinect started selling as a separate peripheral with a price tag of $150 but by 2017 Microsoft went completely dark on next state of connect. Through my research I think the reason why it didn't work was because of the timing, it was too early to make it mandatory with people freaking out about it but if they didn't make it mandatory it was going to fit away regardless because not enough people would've bought it as an optional accessory and developers wouldn't have put a lot of work into it and made games specifically for the Kinect
In 2017, Microsoft announced its plans to discontinue the Kinect and by 2018, ceased producing new adapters. In 2010, Kinect was a huge, innovative piece of technology. But 13 years down the line, there’s really no reason to go out of your way to purchase one.

The Meta Quest 3 is a powerful, wireless mixed-reality headset developed by Meta, featuring high-fidelity colour pass-through, 4K+ Infinite Display, and the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor for immersive, high-performance VR and mixed reality. Released as a successor to Quest 2, it allows users to blend digital, interactive elements with their physical surroundings without needing a PC or cables
The central theme of the review is that the Quest 3’s Pass-through technology which allows you to see the real world in full colour while wearing the headset is a win. some would argue that this transforms the device from a purely VR "isolation chamber" into a versatile mixed-reality (MR) tool. This makes the ability to blend digital objects into your physical environment makes the technology feel more approachable and practical for daily use.
While the Quest 3 is more expensive than the Quest 2, the upgrades in visual clarity, processing power, and particularly the Mixed Reality capabilities justify the price, it is currently the best headset for those looking for a premium experience without moving into the professional (and far more expensive) price brackets of devices like the Apple Vision Pro.
