What is a Diagrammatic?

Cambridge Dictionary defines a Diagrammatic as

in the form of a diagram, this could mean a simple plan or a drawing explaining something

So in my words and to simplify it, A diagrammatic is statistics, definitions, statements explained as a diagram which are usually very well designed with a lot of thought put into it.

With that being said let’s do some research, this page will be split into four parts. That being:

The Principles of Diagrammatic Design

For this part I considered the principles of design and how it can be used for Diagrammatic Designs, I found a helpful video that explains what the seven principles of design is and below I took some points on how some of those points relate to designing a Diagrammatic

Clarity

It is important to ensure that diagrams are easy to interpret, a Diagrammatic that is packed to the brim and complicated will be less effective than that of a clear and simple one. Some ways to improve clarity would be to use a more limited colour palette (Three to Four main colours with accents), use fonts that are legible, considering colour contrast and considering padding between elements

Simplicity

This point relates to clarity as well, when designing a Diagrammatic, it’s important to avoid unnecessary assets that are too complex, sometimes less is more and a diagrammatic that is too complicated is bad UI & UX

Consistency

A good practice for a diagrammatic would be to make sure that the design stays the same in the many different elements, this could be done by using similar styled icons/reusing icons, ensuring the colour palettes are the same in each page and the overall style of the diagram stays the same. Consistency will make the overall user experience better due to the familiarity of the diagrammatic

Hierarchy

Visual hierarchy is important to consider especially in a Diagrammatic as different elements will attract more attention than other elements, so I need to consider how to display a title, sub-title, bar-chart, pie-chart. etc. In order of importance without damaging the design, some things to consider here are use of colour, sizing, alignment and typefaces. The main thing to remember here is that the hierarchy needs to be right so the diagram can be easily understood
