Starting Out

Day one of Unreal Engine, I decided that it would be smart to learn the UI of the software, and so I watched this video on what to do, it last an hour… But I’ll document some notes and progress alongside this project as well

In the centre of the screen you have the viewport, and if you hold the right mouse button down you can look, and can move around with WASD keys, left clicking with that cursor selects the object, My first impression is it feels like Blender. To add a square you must find the shape plus icon and select from the objects

To change rotation, you can use the transform section on the right, or you can press the top left button below the save to activate “Gizmos” which allows you to do the same thing but with the mouse, think of when your scaling something on Figma, you can press k and then scale it by mouse or do it manually through keyboard

You can also snap the cube to the ground by pressing the magnet button on the top and press surface so it stays on the ground.

I watched the rest of the video and it just explained more of the user interface, what some of the buttons can do etc. It was kind of boring to be honest! But after watching the video and messing around a bit more, I understand UE a bit better, I’m no game designer, if I was I’d do game design, but I plan to watch videos focusing on create VR and Simulations to help me create something good.
