Tying it All Together

By now we have sketches, icons, music app ui etc. and now we should be applying these to our work. Think carefully before applying about ui elements, look at Youtube’s notice the padding between text is consistent, the shapes are all relatively the same and consistent. the ui is easy to navigate and shows the main features of the app and it reflects youtube’s brand

also notice smaller details like the youtube red line below a video to show you that you’ve watched this before or you got to this point in the video, small details like this helps enhance the user experience and provide useful tools

We also looked at Monzo, I thought I’d include it as we are doing a banking app as a project, We were told about colour and how it is used in monzo, essentially the colours in monzo are of the same tone, so they use a dark navy and then the lighter tones of that navy for the buttons of the ui. Monzo is also very easy to navigate and you can see clearly where your finances are, where to get your pin number or freeze your card, I noticed that Icons helped a lot with this, using an Eye to represent the pin & card number button

We also looked at property pal’s ui, and the main thing here is it’s consistency with colour, using only 3 Main Colours - Black, White and Orange. this helps give a sense of familiarity and brightness, it also helps UI notfications, like for example we can see in the listing that it was added 58 minutes ago, this sticks out with colour and also gives the User a sense of urgency, like oh I better call and get this property sorted! small things like that help the user use the ui.

Principles of User Interfaces

Jakob’s Law

Users spend most of their time on other sites. This means that users prefer your site to work the same way as all the other sites they already know.

You want to make sure that your designed it made for your thumbs, we looked at a few do and don’ts with mobile touch

Touch Controls

In this example it would better to scroll on a calendar rather than tap the calendar itself, this is a smart way to select a date and time

Format Content

It is important to format your website for a phone, remember responsive design and ensure consistency

The time to acquire a target is a function of the distance to and size of the target.

Essentially, if you make a button small it’ll not properly function.
