Type Anatomy

Today in class we learned about some anatomy for typography

What is it? - The anatomy of type describes the visual elements that make up the letterforms within a typeface. Each letterform is made up of individual components (e.g., spine, stem, stroke).

In Class Task

We were then tasked with finding the anatomy of our Brand name and chosen font for it, admittedly my brand name is 2 words and uses a decorative font so I used the informative font and font name for the task

A lot of brands decide to change the anatomy of their typeface, i.e by changing some of the kerning elements. And it is interesting as there are many ideas and tricks to do this to create a good piece of typography

Type Surgery

A lot of brands will change certain elements of their typographic logo, often making little changes, Here are some Examples

Braun

Braun have altered the cap height of the word A

Amazon have altered the foot of the Z to make it appear as the arrow is digging into the Z

Vans extended the terminal of the V to hang over the rest of the logo
