The Future is already here, it’s just not evenly distributed - William Gibson

Technology is evolving and diversifying at an alarming rate. How are these changes affecting the practice of interaction design, and influencing its possible outcomes?

Gestures are Intuitive

Gestures are important when it comes to future technology, By memory Steve Jobs actually hated the Blackberry phone and saw to get rid of buttons, so Apple spent some time working on touch screen technology, this was a huge innovation seemingly taking blackberry out of business, why? Apple focused on simplicity with touch, it is far superior to press a screen to open an app, it’s more efficient and easy to use, whereas the blackberry took a few steps to open your email.

Gestures in technology is currently developing further with VR technology, Brands like Oculus have created some interesting technologies with their VR Headset, allowing users to press thin air essentially. Apple have taken this and used it in their own way with the Vision Pro, creating a UI that acts like the iPhone.

We have seen examples of this Idea in the past through science fiction with even more predictions being made like Skype. A good example I can think of is Iron Man in 2008, where he is creating his new suit and using Augmented reality to visually create it rather than coding it on a computer.

Bringing in a Third Dimension

Comes into a lot of different areas like Gesture control, a good example of the third dimension is the Xbox Kinect or the Google Glass. Both of these devices allow users to see into a “third dimension” which help with entertainment, with the Kinect it allowed for Gamers to play more physical games like Kinect Sports
